Caisson
A type of pole that is inserted for the structural support
of a future patio, garden wall, or other structure in an area
where unsatisfactory soil exists. The Caisson will rest on the
underlying bedrock or on satisfactory soil.
To construct the Caisson, a 10" or 12" diameter hole is
drilled down into the earth to at least 3 feet into bedrock.
Two or more sticks of rebar, reinforcing bars, are
inserted into the full length of the hole. Concrete is then
poured into the hole.
Also see Rebar.
