Wood Patio
Furniture

Handcrafted wood patio furniture is made
from a range of hardwoods and softwoods. Wood can be crafted
into casual and formal styles to suit every garden decor from
rustic seaside to the traditional style for a formal English
garden. When you select a style you are really selecting a
mood, for the style creates the mood.
Wooden patio furniture is made from many woods. Cedar, Pine,
Alder, Cypress and other woods are used for patio
furniture.
The more expensive woods are used for highly crafted and
elegant styles that are excellent for patio table and chair
sets. Among these, teak is especially durable outdoors due to
their tight grain and high oil content. Cedar is the
traditional wood used for Adirondack chairs.
Another type of wood that is desirable is Cypress. This
noble wood ages to a naturally beautiful color. It is a strong
wood that is resistant to insect damage and decay.
Pine is another alternative to consider. It is the wood
usually found in ski lodge decks, marina docks, as well as
patio furniture. Treated pine is insect and rot resistant and
less expensive than most other woods. Pine is an
American/Canadian renewable resource.
Whether you're interested in a place for quiet contemplation
or something as utilitarian as a simple dining set for family
weekend cookouts, wood is a practical choice. You can read our

Cedar Outdoor
Furniture
Cedar Outdoor Furniture is
low-maintenance and strikingly attractive. Compared to
most other outdoor furniture woods, cedar stands out for
its ability to handle moisture and its durability.
A wood used traditionally in outdoor furniture, cedar has
been used in classic Adirondack-style furniture for over 100
years. White cedar patio furniture is among the first porch
furniture made in the US.
While there are a variety of trees that are in the cedar
family, including the Biblical Cedars of Lebanon, the North
American furniture industry has popularized two woods:
Red Cedar and White
Cedar.
Cedar is a desirable wood used in outdoor furniture. It has
some of the qualities of teak, yet is more affordable and is
easily available.
Cedar is relatively light in weight but it is a very strong
wood that is very durable, aromatic, and beautiful. Cedar is
harvested from renewable forest farms, so it is an ecologically
sound choice. Read more in our article on Cedar Wood Characteristics and
Care.
Cedar is certainly one of the most most desirable woods for
wooden patio furniture outdoor, and a valuable addition to
almost any garden decor.
